Is there much difference between the resonant guitar and a Classical Guitar?
I'll make a resonator similar to guitar.How classical guitar? I can find books on the making of classical and acoustic guitars.Are There are books on the manufacture resonator guitars? Thank you
The only similarities between a classical guitar and Resonator Guitar (dobro calls) are strings and a tuning fork. The playing style, body type, and almost everything else is window. Classical and acoustic guitars are based on the soundboard (front) to vibrate and push air in and out of the hole to create a sound resonance. These guitars must be plucked / scratched and often played with the fingers on the fretboard. These guitars require a relatively large volume: Sustainability suffers. Resonator guitars, however, are totally different. The anchor for a large metal plate. Hold is the main objective as Dobros are usually played with a slide and not worried about it. The metal plate keeps the string vibrating as the carriage moves from top to bottom. The board also adds a small amount of reverb. Unless you have amazing ability to work metal, and an impressive store, I would not make a dobro.
