Epiphone/Gibson Les paul vs. Fender Stratocaster?

I currently have a Fender Starcaster( laugh all you want, i hate it , worst guitar you can buy) and i am going to upgrade my guitar on my birthday or a few days after (march 25th). i am currently looking at a epiphone les paul ultra, but i am open to other suggestions. and i would also like to hear peoples opinions on the great les pail vs. strat battle.
let me also add that i have played both, my friend owns a stratocaster and i frequently make trips to guitarcenter with him to play other guitars including les pauls
i currently feel the same way about teles me and my friend love to make fun of their looks and i dout i will ever buy one jst because of looks. i lean the les paul way too. but i cant aford a gibson so i will have to go with an epiphone, which doesnt bother me because in my opinion i feel that epiphone is as good as fender

The Fender stratocaster. It’s good enough for Clapton, it’s good enough for me.
