Red Acoustic Guitar
Red Acoustic Guitar
Acoustic Guitar Without The Black Tear Looking Thing?

So I work at the Renaissance festival, and i asked my boss if i could play my guitar while it wasnt busy, The rules of it,
Acoustic,
No paint,
No plastic or electronics visible.
Ive got 150 bucks to spend, stretched at 165
But all of the ones ive looked at,
Are either red, blue, some stupid decal,
or they have that black plastic tear that wraps around the hole
If you could give me some links
Id appreciate it,
Thanks!!

Well, actually if your boss is going to be a stickler for historical authenticity, you shouldn’t be playing a modern guitar at a Ren-fest at all. There were guitars in Renaissance times, but they were substantially smaller and more delicate than the modern Classical Guitar, and generated a much quieter sound. The strings were paired as in a modern 12-String Guitar, but they only had four or five pairs of strings rather than six — and the strings were made of gut. Dimensions for the modern classical guitar were established by a Spanish luthier named Torres in the mid-1800’s.

It wasn’t until the early 20th century that guitar makers like Martin Guitars began putting Steel Strings on their instruments to satisfy customers’ demands for louder, brighter sounding instruments.
Nylon strings to replace gut strings for classical guitars weren’t available until the 1940’s.

So a guitar at a Renaissance festival will be a total anachronism no matter what you get, but I would go for a classical guitar with nylon strings, because it won’t have the electronics or a plastic pickguard, and I think the sound would be a little closer to the sound of early Renaissance music than a steel-string guitar would be.
